Generating short-term observation schedules for space mission projects

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a new dispatching rule and a set of local search algorithms based on the ®ltered beam search, GRASP and simulated annealing methodologies to construct short-term observation schedules of space mission projects, mainly for NASA's Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The main features of generating short-term observations of HST are state dependent set up times, user speci®ed deadlines, visibility windows of the targets and the priorities assigned to the observations. The objective of HST scheduling is to maximize the scienti®c return. We have tested the relative performances of the proposed algorithms including the nearest neighbor rule both in objective function value and computational time aspects by utilizing a full-factorial experimental design.

Task Swapping: Making Space in Schedules for Space
Given their inherent expense, space missions must utilize available resources efficiently. Allocating resources to a single mission or scientific instrument is in itself a challenging task, and this complexity becomes magnified as fleets of satellites and networks of groundstations and antennas are managed as resource pools. Techniques which perform well for generating schedules for unit capaci...

This paper will describe the initial efforts to validate and calibrate the COQALMO model within the JPL environment. The risk to JPL software projects precipitated by higher than expected defect densities late in the software lifecycle impact spacecraWmissions in several ways. Among them are risks of missing “hard” schedule deadlines, which may be dictated by immovable launch dates and the timi...
متن کاملCubeSail for Near Earth Object Observation
Microsatellites known as “CubeSats” have recently been developed to enable comparatively inexpensive and timely access to space for small payloads. As a new standard for small satellites, the CubeSat has shown great promise for space applications such as earth observation, planetary science and space physics mission. In this paper a “CubeSail” mission – a CubeSat deployed with a solar sail –for...
